Videomaker – "Music To Your Ears"

WOW. I HAVEN’T POSTED IN FOREVER. Don’t hate me.

This article gave a lot of helpful advice about adding a score to your film. This is of great importance because the soundtrack is really what ties the whole tone of your film together. (What would Star Wars be without its soundtrack???) Scoring a film is no doubt a difficult and daunting task. You may want to steer clear of using popular music on the radio due to extremely high royalties, which is a payment an artist receives when someone uses their music legally. Then again, you may not feel that you want to create your own original music either.

Thankfully, there are countless online music libraries. They are easy to access and generally inexpensive. The most important thing to remember when purchasing your music is to READ THE FINE PRINT. Also, when you’re about to check off a box that says, “I have read and agreed to the set forth terms and conditions,” make sure you’ve actually READ THEM! Consider what you’ll be using the music for before you purchase it. In our case, it’s educational.

Some sites will allow you to play a song completely before even purchasing it. Therefore, you could play the song along to your video to make sure you really have a good feel for it and that it completes the tone of your film.

This was really helpful for me because with my short film coming up, a song really needs to play a huge role at the end. I think it will be helpful to others as well.
