Project Team: Individual or partners
Project Synopsis: For this project you create an advertisement. Your commercial can be for any major marketable product or a fake product that you create, although it must be appropriate for school. The commercial will need to have a run time of 30 or 60 seconds in length.
Project Detail: You are responsible for determining what product your commercial will feature, as well as a clever and effective way of advertising the product. The commercial must be an original idea, no copying old “already done” commercials. This project must demonstrate your knowledge of camera work, audio/sound work, 3-point lighting, and editing.
You will complete a script using Celtx and a shot sequence (with video, audio, and time) along with your storyboard. Your project must be approved by me before you start production.
The commercial must be exactly 30 or 60 seconds, as this is the standard for TV. This time does not include a title slide or end credits, which are expected as always. I am looking for creative shot selection, audio quality and continuity.
Get clever! Have fun! Recruit talent!
Watch some commercials to get the thought process going. You can also see previous student examples on our YouTube page. Here are some ideas to consider: automobile, tires, soft drink, household cleaners, candy, toothpaste or another toiletry item, shoes, computers, department store, restaurant, chips, clothing store, travel websites, cell phones, iPod, pharmaceuticals, etc.
As always you will need to write a one-page minimum critique after the project reflecting on what you did, what went well, what was frustrating, what you learned as a result of the project, what you hope to improve upon for the next project, and any future goals you have for your film making. Basically, you need to evaluate your progress as a filmmaker. This must be typed, 12 point size, Times New Roman font, double spaced, and standard one-inch margins. This is due the same day your video is due.
